2009 Japan Itinerary

2009 California Educators' Mission to Japan
June 27-July 5, 2009

Day One: Saturday, June 27
Norcal group leaves Sacramento at 8 a.m. (Deb, Kevin, Mark, Jim)
Leave LAX on Flight JL61 at 13:20

Day Two: Sunday, June 28
Arrive Narita/Tokyo 16:45
Stay at Keio Plaza Hotel (Tokyo) arriving approximately 20:00.

Day Three: Monday, June 29
9:30-11 Visit Tokyo Board of Education
13:o0-15:30 Visit Jissen School (private)
Stay at Keio Plaza Hotel

Day Four: Tuesday, June 30
9:30-11:30 Visit Metropolitan Toyama Senior High School (public)
13:30-16:30 Visit Chofu Municipal Junior High School (public)
Stay at Keio Plaza Hotel

Day Five: Wednesday, July 1
Tokyo to Hiroshima
10:15-11:30 Visit Nerima Municipal Kouyama Elementary School (school lunch)
Leave for Hiroshima via JAL 1615 (leave Haneda 17:15, arrive Hiroshima 18:40)
Stay at Hotel Granvia Hiroshima

Day Six: Thursday, July 2
Hiroshima to Kyoto
9:00-14:00 Visit Peace Memorial Park, Honkawa Elementary School Peace Museum ( nthe school was the closest school to ground zero. They lost about 400 students and more than ten teachers, and the building too great amounts of damage from the atomic bomb dropped on August 6, 1945.

After lunch, leave for Kyoto by Shinkansen bullet train.
Stay at Kyoto Royal Hotel

Day Seven: Friday, July 3
Kyoto
Kyoto sight seeing (full day)
Stay at Kyoto Royal Hotel

Day Eight: Saturday, July 4
Kyoto to Tokyo
Morning: leave for Tokyo by shinkansen bullet train
Afternoon: Visit Tokyo National Museum, River Cruise
Meet Japanese teachers at night.
Stay at Keio Plaza Hotel

Day Nine: Sunday, July 5
Tokyo to Los Angeles
Leave for Los Angeles JL62 17:20
