Welcome Kevin!
Dear Japan Travelers,
I would like you to welcome your co-traveler, Kevin Chan of the California Department of Education, who will replace our revered field colleague Lory Wicketts.
Kevin, who learned only yesterday that he had been selected, says that going to Japan is his "dream trip." He will be a super co-traveler.
While Deputy Deb Sigman is the official Department of Education head, all of you represent the education profession and the educational community in the state of California. Thank you in advance for playing this role so well.

I tried to convey to Kevin some of JTB's expectations, as articulated much better by Tamiko last week at the orientation. I'm hoping that some of you, vets included (cc'd above), might enlighten Kevin on these ideas, as well as provide travel tips from the orientation. I know he would appreciate any words of wisdom.
Kevin has daughter who attends middle school in the Elk Grove Unified School District. He is very excited about the trip. We have already talked three times since last night. Tamiko has really come through for us. I know that you will all come back the best of friends and, equally as important, full of ideas for teacher, student, and parent networking in a global community.
Just a reminder: the four Northern California travelers will fly from Sacto. to LAX on June 27 and will re-enter the U.S. at LAX on July 5, then fly back to Sacto.
I will be in touch soon about the report JTB will need at the end of the trip.
Please join me in thanking the California Teachers of the Year Foundation who, in addition to JTB, make this trip possible.
Kim
