Crossing the International Dateline Somewhere over the Pacific. It's Suddenly Sunday!
Japanese airline food. Some chicken dish. Not bad really. A great diversion on an eleven hour flight.
We made it!
Alastair and Jose immediately after arrival.
Note the guard with mask and gloves. They are quite worried about N1H1. He's not paying tribute to Michael Jackson.

Kevin and his daughter's monkey.
Live flower display.
Notice Kevin in the green shirt down in the baggage claim area after leaving customs.
Our flight was JAL 061.
Meeting with Mitzi after we left security. We had all gathered and I spotted Mitzi. What a joy to see her. It might have been difficult for us to navigate completely on our own. :)
Mitzi had gone to buy our bus tickets in to town which cost 3000 yen each.
Waiting for the 6:15 bus to the hotel.
After a two hour and ten minute bus ride we arrived at the Keio Plaza Hotel where we will be staying for the next three nights.

A beautiful flower arrangement at the hotel.

Any guesses on who wins the "Class Clown" award?
Several of us wanted a snack so Mitzi took us to Jurin a coffee shop at the hotel. First we exchanged some dollars into yen. It is currently under 92 yen to the dollar. Not great.

Jurin Cafe. Site of our late night snack
I had a small pizza, Mitzi and Jose had a noodle dish, Alastair had ice cream and waffles and Kevin had pineapple. Mark and Deb had decided to go to bed.
After we ate Kevin and Alastair went to best and Mitzi, Jose and I had dessert.
Green tea tiramisu. Definitely delicious.
The great thrill of the evening was getting the converter I need to be able to charge my computer and that I had direct connection to high speed Internet. Blogging her we come.

ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with gmoney - more pictures of the food! mmmm
This should be the end of luggage for a while. Thanks for reading.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't take long for Jose to make the title of class clown (from his loving wife). He seems to be eating well. I look forward to seeing more of him and the trip as it continues.
ReplyDeleteHi Jim,
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful trip so far. I'm enjoying the photos and all of your commentary. This is the closest I've ever got to Japan. I'm Mark's mom and tell him I said "Hi!" and that we are thoroughly enjoying the twins! Carol
Welcome Carol. We are enjoying Mark so much. Give the twins a kiss for all the California delegation!
ReplyDeleteJim
Well, since I no longer have access to a Del Campo yearbook for my summer reading pleasure, I guess I'll just have to follow your blog instead.
ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteI really am enjoying your blog! It is truly taking me back to the trip we took in 2003. I'm glad to see you have a "Chris Mullin" comedian on the trip too.

Jim and Friends,
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much I'm enjoying your blog and so glad that we finally have a TOY group that is truly immortalizing this amazing trip! Your pictures are full of life and very telling of your time and it really does bring back wonderful memories of my 2000 trip. Please give Mitzi a hug and and an invitation to California from me, and tell Deb I'm so glad to see her in sandals! (Yes, I checked...)
